Quest for Respect Review
I have read several books for survivors of rape and this one has the best ideas written most succinctly. Also, this book can be completed in one day if a person has the time.

Excellent Guide for the Survivor!
This is the best book I have read on the subject of rape & how to survive it. Unlike so many of the books out on rape, this is not written from a statistical aspect & how to prevent rape in the first place. This book is written totally to the survivor with exercises to help you recover from rape. If you are a victim of rape & trying to figure out how to recover from it, this is the book for you! It really made me realize that my reactions are typical of the normal victim & that there is nothing wrong with me for taking so long to recover. I highly recommend this book to anyone who has been the victim of rape & is trying to become a survivor!

Rainbows (Wheeler Large Print Book Series (Cloth))
Published in Hardcover by Wheeler Pub (August, 1997)
Author: Katherine Stone

Romance at it's BEST!
The first book by Katherine Stone that I read was Bel Aire. After that I was hooked. This book had so many exciting incidents, there was no way you could guess the ending. Alexa and Katherine were very strong characters. I enjoyed this book emensely. The action was wonderful. The love between the main characters and their respective love intrests is there from the begining and their journey to that realization is all the fun. I love the fact that the love scenes are not explict and very subtle.

A True Page Turner - Nonstop Action and Romance
Don't read the editorial review-it reveals too much of the story! I was a little surprised at the way in which KS shuffled around the love lives of the characters. James Sterling, whom I liked the best, was a great guy, but I was never convinced that he was a best friend to the senator. The rare times they appeared together, they were never more than cordial to one another; they talked as strangers would.
Also, James should have been more responsible in his love life; it wasn't fair of him to let another man develop feelings for the one he loved, then want that man to walk away when he finally came to his senses.
The plots were great, however, a very interesting story, and once again KS sweeps us away to foreign lands.

Restitution
Published in Mass Market Paperback by Signet (06 February, 2001)
Authors: Richard S. Wheeler and Richard S. Wheller
Average review score:

From the author
I titled this book The Worth of a Man, which goes to the heart of my story, but the publishers changed it. It is a study of the power and beauty of conscience, and how two people transformed their lives by doing what they had to do to make themselves whole.

The hero, Truman Jackson, is a former bank robber who, with his wife Gracie, has lived an exemplary life for many years. And yet, they both know that their secret past keeps them from the happiness and peace they yearn for. So they decide to make their past known to the small frontier community which has embraced them, and begin the process of repaying everyone they can find who had suffered loss because of the robberies. The results are shocking. Far from welcoming the reformed pair, most of the citizens shun and condemn them, and suddenly Truman and Gracie's lives are torn apart.

The book explores goodness and evil, forgiveness and hardness of heart. It is also about how the vision and courage of one sterling man and one sterling woman can transform the world.

Dick Wheeler is great
Some might say I shouldn't be allowed to write this review, because Dick Wheeler is a friend of mine. We met through Western Writers of America, and if you consider WWA like one big family then I guess Dick is my brother. And I would be honored to call him brother.

I love Westerns. I grew up on Louis L'Amour and Luke Short, Elmer Kelton, Ernest Haycox, Zane Grey, Max Brand. Each of those authors has their place on the throne of Western writing history, though I consider Kelton to be the best of them.

But I would be literally sick to my stomach of a list of the best Western writers came out and it did not include Richard Wheeler. Not only is he a man among men, virtuous, kind, humble, and intelligent, but he writes a Western novel that no one can beat. I would love to have my own Westerns compared to his. I have had one novel rated number one selling Western in the country, and it puffed me up until I read Dick Wheeler. Talk about a humbling experience!

Now, finally to this book, Restitution. What a wonderful, beautiful work of art! Dick Wheeler is a master. Not once was there a gun shot, not once did two (or three or ten) men face down in the street and shoot it out. Not once did an Indian arrow find some man's heart, and not once was an Indian village raided and destroyed.

Yet I was on the edge of my seat almost from the first. Wheeler masterfully created this book with no violence and no sex and no cursing and made you feel like it was real and like you were there and like the whole world depended on what happend to Truman. I would not have believed someone could pull off this feat. The publisher deserves praise for publishing it, and criticism for not letting Wheeler continue writing books like it. The West wasn't THAT violent of a place. Let's let someone like Wheeler tell a suspenseful, tense story, without the bloodshed and foul language for once.

Bravo, Richard! You're the best.

Rigged to Ride (Wheeler Large Print Book Series (Paper))
Published in Paperback by Wheeler Pub (May, 2002)
Author: Mike Flanagan
Average review score:

Another great rodeo adventure!
Clay Tory has turned pro in the rodeo circuit, riding saddle bronc, bareback and bull. He is working his way up the PRCA standings, traveling with good friend and surrogate father, Jack Lomas. Clay even has a girlfriend, barrel racer Tamara Allen. Everything should be perfect, but the top rodeo contenders are suddenly the victims of pranks, keeping them from competing. Clay and Jack are suspicious, but it isn't until Clay is viciously attacked, his riding hand mangled, that serious investigations begin. The trail leads to a group of wealthy gamblers betting on the standings, but which of them is organizing the escalating attacks?

Wow, Flanagan's done it again. This is number 2 in the Rodeo Riders series, one that I hope has a long and healthy life. I was instantly drawn into Jack and Clay's lives, on and off the rodeo circuit. And Tamara is a fine addition to the growing family of friends and associates. Cowboy up and get this book. You won't regret it!

A wonderful series by Mike Flanagan
When I started reading "Cowboy Up!", the first in a Rodeo Riders series by Mike Flanagan, it was the first I had been exposed to his writings. I read the book and was amazed at his style of writing and smooth flow. I am now a fan of Mike Flanagan's books. His understanding of human nature is expressed in a great way in the way that he writes and his characters come alive and you wish that you were there, living it along with them. In "Rigged to Ride", his next installment, it even gets better. Mike continues with his principal characters, Jack and Clay, but now adds Tamara. He uses no curse words, uses no foul behavior associated with drinking or carousing, and just does a splendid job! I would say that he has my interest and I will purchase all of his books. In this story, there is a gambling syndicate involved with rodeoing and it intensifies as the book goes on. But also, in the midst of all the troubles, Jack and Clay and Tamara, and a host of other noteable characters, do not respond with violence or hatred, but rather with composure. This is what really marks the book and Mike Flanagan's writing style. He has not bowed to the typical 90's style of writing, which includes cursing, violence and hatred, but rather a smooth flow of human love of the characters involved. Justice still gets served, but in a whole new way, which may be unfamiliar to us today. You will absolutely love this book. Well done, Mike Flanagan!

The Savage Heart (Wheeler Large Print Book Series (Paper))
Published in Paperback by Wheeler Pub (June, 1998)
Author: Diana Palmer
Average review score:

A wonderfully inventive book that kept me going.
I could not put this book down for anything. It was funny how Diana Palmer made her characters act and behave. The twist in plots kept me interested until the end. I loved this book.

The greatest romance
I know this sounds cliched, but it is truly the most moving, beautiful, emotional and breathtaking book I have read. I picked the book out simply because I liked the cover, and when I started reading, I couldn't put it down. What I love is the story of the interracial marriage. How two people from two worlds could come together as one. Simply beautiful.

Why I like Someone like you?
This book was the best of the best books that I have read. I feel that this book was so excitingand it made me feel very like I had some thing incomen with the mane character. I also have a best friend and i feel very close to here just the same as Halley and Scarllet.

Another hit from this New York Times Bestselling author
Reed Garrett is running from his past, but deep down he knows that he can never truly escape from it. Still, he does everything to avoid practicing the profession that once meant everything to him. Susannah Powell is a young lady living with her two aunts on their farm in Texas. She represses her natural urges of needing to feel a man's tender touch because she fears that her mother's depraved nature flows through her genes.

These two lost and tortured souls meet when Reed comes to her farm seeking employment. She turns him away because she finds herself attracted to the man. Her aunts hire him anyway to work on the farm because they believe that this may be the person who holds the key that can free Susannah from her self-imposed prison.

Once again New York Times best selling author Elaine Coffman delivers an emotionally intense western romance that is destined to be considered a classic. SOMEONE LIKE YOU takes readers to the wild frontier at a time when a person, especially a man must meet any challenges sent their way if they are to survive. This novel is a must read for romance readers everywhere.

Stranger to the Game
Published in Paperback by Penguin USA (Paper) (March, 1996)
Authors: Bob Gibson and Lonnie Wheeler
Average review score:

entertaining and revealing
A good sports autobiography. Book is sprinkled by short memorances of Gibson by his colleagues (Joe Torre, Tim McCarver, Curt Flood, others) -- an interesting and effective mechanism.

"Oh damn, it's Gibson!"
Yep, that's what I said as a Cubs fan in my youth. Whenever St. Louis was in town and I checked to see who the starting pitcher for the Cardinals would be. Man, did this guy ever break my heart... again and again!

Now, in retrospect, I can appreciate his greatness. (Though the painful memories of how he often made my Cubbies look like Little League hitters still lingers a bit). The greatness I admire most today, however, lies not in his pitching talent (superb as it was). Rather, I see his real legacy as one who refused to buckle under to the forces of racism; one who again and again challenged the flawed thinking of both overt racists and even unintentional racists. This book reveals a lot about baseball, but so much more about Gibson the man. He is in the same mold as other great athletes, like Clemente and Ali, who transcended their sport, and made a mark on society as well.

But some things are STILL unforgivable -- Why did he have to be so brutal on my Cubbies?!!

Theories of the Universe
Published in Audio Cassette by Audio Scholar (October, 1999)
Authors: Paul Thagard, John Archibald Wheeler, Ignazio Ciufolini, Milton K. Munitz, Stephen Hawking, and Julian Lopez-Morillas
Average review score:

The history and origins of cosmology
Want understand what Stephen Hawking and his colleagues are talking about, but have no idea about the history of cosmology? Then this is the book you're looking for.

This collection of texts taken from writings by Plato, Copernicus, Galilei, Ptolomy, Einstein, Hubble and other theorists discus what the universe is made of, how it works and (ultimately) what our place is in the Grand Scheme of Things, offering good insight into how our knowledge of the universe has developed over the last 40 centuries from Babylonian times to the 20th Century.

As this book was originally published in 1957 and reprinted in 1965, the latest theories are not included. It is therefore not a book for mathematicians or physicists interested in learning the latest theories, but rather a book for those interested in a well-written, general introduction to the field of cosmology.

Great edutainment of the universe ...
July 7, 1999 I would like to take a minute to thank Audio Scholar for putting together this audio novel which consists of 4 essays on the theories of the Universe. I thoroughly enjoyed it as did my 17 month old son who gets to listen to them to as his bedtime stories. One night he kept me up until 2am until I turned the tape back on! Normally he just gets to listen from 8 - 10pm. I would like to encourage Audio Scholar to produce more of these types of edutainment audio programs on tape or CD. In many instances I wouldn't mind seeing the programs extend to 4 tapes or CD's. I love listening to scientific books on my way to work and also love to share them with my 17 month old son as his bedtime stories. My budget for this type of audio edutainment is $1,000 a year and the more science and physics books abridged the better. I would love to see the following subjects abrigded to audio for distribution through Amazon.com. Maths, sciences, physics, astrophysics, geology, any and all space related topics, gravity, unified field theory, electromagnetics, electronics, microproccessor design, optics, micro-optics, electro-optics, light and the theory there of, satellites, satellite orbital mechanics and related theory. I do not have time in my busy daily schedule to read very much, but do I have five hours a day to listen and learn. If you make it I will support it. Arnold D Veness

Time & Tide: The Islands of Tuvalu
Published in Paperback by Lonely Planet (October, 2001)
Authors: Peter Bennetts and Tony Wheeler
Average review score:

simple review
Mr Bennetts and Mr Wheeler chronicle the unique world of island life with a gentle touch of objectivity whilst acknowledging the charm of 'place' and the potential of subjective reaction by a reader. This book is a beautiful reminder that there are places other than your workstation -bigger skies than the ceiling grid and underfoot textures more surreal than nylon carpet. ENJOY!

stunning
beautiful photographic documentation of a nation that may soon be lost to global warming. an intimate portrait of a country and its people, culture and spirit.

What Matters Most (Wheeler Large Print Book Series (Paper))
Published in Paperback by Wheeler Pub (August, 1996)
Author: Cynthia Victor
Average review score:

Worthwhile reading.
While I enjoyed this story very much, it seemed to have two definite separate parts: one part contemporary love story, one part mystery. Not to complain, because I love detail and background and motivation in any plot, but, I kept anticipating the mystery part to happen and to have some sort of investigation take place! It seemed that it was a lot of plot buildup and the mystery part of the story seemed very glossed over and almost rushed at the end. This story could have been longer, with more thriller type things happening. I wouldn't have minded a longer book at all. It always kept my attention and kept the pages turning. I just wasn't satisfied with the mystery plotline. So, if you love romance, with a little thrill thrown in, this is for you. But, if you were looking for a real thriller/mystery you might be disappointed, but only a very little bit. I still felt it was a worthwhile read and I don't feel as if I was wasting my time.

this book was awesome!
Lainey, the main character, has to move in and take over her best friend's life aftger her friend is mysteriously killed. You go through all of Lainey's very real and believable problems - getting a ready-made family with two kids, dealing with a no-respect job, a failing love life, and figuring out exactly what happened to her best friend, Farrel, and Farrel's husband. This book is awesome and I couldn't put it down. I went out and bought all of Cynthia Victor's books after I read this one!
